Cortona

located south of Arezzo, on the border with the province of Siena and the Umbria region.

Even if the predominant architecture of Cortona is medieval, with steep narrow streets situated on a hillside, the town was founded by the Etruscans between the 8th and 7th B.C. and to this day parts of the Etruscan city walls can be seen as basis of the medieval walls.

As we approach Piazza Garibaldi, there is a wonderful view of the whole Valdichiana and of the Trasimeno Lake.

We continue on a walk along the main street to arrive in the picturesque Piazza della Repubblica with the Town Hall and the Captain Palace.

Cortona gave birth to the painter Luca Signorelli and the main theatre is dedicated to him.

After the movie “Under the tuscan sun” based on the book written by Frances Mayes, the fame of Cortona spread around the world and lots of tourists are attracted to the town and the beautiful surrounding countryside.

Last but not least is the wine.
The Consorzio Vini Cortona was established about 20 years ago. The local wine production focuses mainly on Syrah, as well as Sangiovese and other international varieties. To date, there are about 60 producers of this DOC, so we can gladly suggest that you include some tastings of these fine wines during your visit.
